Projects Page, Online Courses, and Syracuse
A few weeks ago I finally got around to getting some of the web development projects that have been living locally on my laptop up and running via a Heroku hosting environment (check them out on my Projects page!). While they're definitely not anything super impressive (or pretty), I have had a bunch of fun putting them together over the last few years.Anyone interested in learning web development from scratch should 100% check out Colt Steele's Web Development Bootcamp on Udemy. They're always having sales and you can easily pick it up for anywhere from $11.99 to $19.99. His curriculum is unmatched and his style of teaching keeps you engaged and excited to keep learning. He also has an awesome course on MySQL.I first fell in love with web development during my second semester of senior year at Syracuse when I took an Intro to Web Development course with Chris Kirkegaard - Professor of Practice at the Syracuse iSchool and current COO of Sidearm Sports (check out the awesome work they do for collegiate sports websites here!). Chris was by far one of the best professors that I ever had while at Syracuse and his class was one of the main reasons why I fell in-love with the tech industry. One of the amazing things about the iSchool @ SU is that a majority of the 3rd floor of the College's main building is dedicated to the Sidearm Sports offices. Their entire operation works out of the building, which makes it super accessible to students. Jeff Rubin - founder, CEO, and iSchool professor is a profound presence in the building, at the college, across campus, and has had a major impact on the College. He's a fantastic professor, brilliant businessman, and another one of the reasons why I fell in-love with tech. I'm getting pretty nostalgic here as I'm writing this, but I genuinely think that the iSchool minor that I pursued was one of the best educational decisions I have ever made. As a biomedical engineering student, I didn't have any standard technology courses that were a part of my curriculum - despite how increasingly technical the field of bioengineering is getting (how databases work and how to extract insights from them, general coding skills, the Software Development Lifecycle, etc.). It has given me credibility when talking tech while also allowing me to look at my current role as an Integrations Consultant through a unique lens.Anyways, I hope you enjoy what I've put together and would love to connect over ideas, suggestions, or anything else!-Nick
